la Barbecue is more than a beloved part of Austin, it’s a family legacy that our Dish’n Dames features, LeAnn Mueller and Alison Clem, carry on.
LeAnn Mueller comes from barbecue royalty and takes her responsibility to represent her family name very seriously. Her grandfather, Louie Mueller and father, Bobby, are legends in the industry who introduced the art of Texas barbecue to LeAnn early in life. Raised in the business, LeAnn’s passion for the pit has simply always been a part of who she is, but it hasn’t always been a part of what she does. Her professional photography business put her on the map for her amazing perspective and vision when it comes to telling a visual story. Her work has been featured in national magazines and on numerous album covers for famous musicians. Yet, barbecue always had a special place in her heart. In 2012, she opened la Barbecue in Austin, Texas, along with her wife Alison Clem and John Lewis. While Alison had previously worked in the industry early on, this was a whole new world. With John’s support and pit guidance, Alison soon became a queen of Q in her own right. In 2015, John moved to Charleston, South Carolina, to start his own business. Together, LeAnn and Alison blazed the trail early on for women in the barbecue business. They have become a staple in the Austin community and continue to inspire others with their innovative menu. Both LeAnn and Alison split their time between Austin and Los Angeles, along with their pups Lilly, Mr. Oliver Pickles, Louie, and Zoe. |
