Katie Lowe is the head brewer at Koko’s Bavarian, the new authentic German brewery and biergarten in east Austin. While attending LSU in Baton Rouge, Lowe taught herself how to brew and bottle beer at home with her own equipment. She brewed mostly ales at home and then started brewing at Adrian’s Restaurant & Bar in Baton Rouge making all different styles and beers on tap each week centered around the weather and timing. She then moved on to Tin Roof where she was head brewer at a larger scale for the brewery and oversaw the brewing of the four flagship beers, introduced new recipes for seasonal beers, and small bath beers for the taproom and in market sales.
At Koko’s Bavarian you’ll find Katie's beer program focusing on six German-style beers brewed onsite which include four lagers and two ales: pilsner, kolch, bock, hefeweisen, dunkleweisen & helles. She focuses on mostly traditional lagers on draft that are light, refreshing, and traditional as possible as they are made with German hops and the malt is from a local company called Tex Malt. Katie’s goal is to make sure the beers are drinkable, light, frothy, and pair well with the Bavarian cuisine by Chef Tim Love. |
