A lot of people use paint for their palette, I use ingredients for my palette. The plate is a canvas, the pan is a canvas and then you put it together and you look at the colors and say these colors compliment each other, these flavors compliment each other. This week’s Dish’n Dames feature is the epitome of hard work, high-energy and an adventurous spirit. Chef Uno Immanivong of Uno Brands in Dallas, Texas, is fearless and fun in the kitchen. Her passion for food is rooted in the memories of her childhood — but becoming a part of the culinary world wasn’t always part of her career path. Her epicurean journey began unconventionally.
For more than 15 years, Uno thrived in the financial business world, working for fortune 100 and 500 banking institutions. Although she’d always been drawn to food and inspired by her own mother’s culinary talents, her parents encouraged her to focus on a career outside of food. It wasn’t until she decided to follow her true calling that she left the financial world and started Foodie Couture, her first boutique food company. From there, Uno’s tenacity and unwavering determination created a swell of momentum, earning her appearances on cooking shows on multiple networks, including a show with iconic legend Anthony Bourdain. Uno had ignited a spark, blazing her own culinary trail. Through innovative partnerships, on-the-job training and the desire to show her daughter that anything is possible with passion, a vision and a strong work ethic, Uno founded Chino Chinatown in Dallas’ popular destination, Trinity Groves. Now the Chef and owner of Red Stix, an Asian street food experience at the Legacy Food Hall in Plano, TX, Uno continues to grow her audience and feed the masses — to everyone’s delight. Her expertise doesn’t end with restaurant operational and financial know-how. She is a social media magnet — engaging, educating and entertaining her nearly ten-thousand followers. She showcases her delicious food, interesting adventures and oftentimes features fellow chefs and restaurants along her travels. Chef Uno inspires many, none more than her own daughter, Emma, who is following in her mother’s footsteps. A chef in her own right, Emma has appeared on Food Network and has her own social media following. With her mother’s encouragement and support, she’s is well on her way to joining Chef Uno as another influential woman in culinary. |
