Advice I would offer to other females starting in this industry is just to learn from everybody. Thinking that we know everything, won't take us anywhere. Beatriz Martines is the corporate chef for H Town Restaurant Group, owned and operated by James-beard Award-winning Chef Hugo Ortega and Tracy Vaught.
Beatriz was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, and graduated with honors with associate degrees in culinary arts and baking and pastry from the Art Institute of Houston. She worked with Mexican celebrity chef Aquiles Chavez at his restaurant in Houston before being selected as one of just two students to receive a five-month apprenticeship scholarship at El Celler de Can Roca — rated as one of the best restaurants in the world. Staging at El Celler de Can Roca, she met chefs Hugo Ortega and Ruben Ortega. Impressed with her talents, they offered her a job with H Town Restaurant Group upon her return to Houston. As corporate chef, she assists with recipe development, staff training, event preparation, food cost control and labor cost and control, as well as out-of-town events. |
