The most important thing that has helped me over the years is really a sense of perseverance and entrusting in your ideas. Our Dish’n Dames feature this week, co-founder and president of Independence Brewing Company Amy Cartwright, had little idea that taking a job at the Bitter End Brewpub in 1996 to pay her way through the University of Texas Austin would spark an obsession with craft beer. Much less, she had no idea it would lead to a lifelong pursuit for the perfect IPA. But, it did.
Brewing beer wasn’t too far fetched since her husband, Rob, knew exactly how to brew a killer American Pale Ale. However, it was during a moment while she enjoyed that husband-crafted brew that Amy realized her love of craft beer was much more than a moment of bliss. It was a business venture she would get behind. She was inspired to dedicate herself to the art of brewing craft beer for the masses, and Independence Brewing Co. was born. Years of research, planning, and fundraising culminated in October 2004 when Independence opened its warehouse doors in South Austin. Amy’s passion for brewing hand-crafted ales for Texas comes through in every batch, every keg, every bottle, and every can of beer that Independence brews. |
Join Amy at the Independence Tap Room, located in south Austin, to experience one of their hand-crafted brews or a brewery-exclusive beer.
