While born in Dallas, Texas, baker Desirae Vasquez grew up in the small town of Hartville, Ohio. Her parents, and mom especially, always infused their creativity and love of craftsmanship into their home life.
Once graduated from high school, Desirae moved to Denver, Colorado. There, she pursued the craft that had most intrigued her in the kitchen, the art of baking. She graduated from the Art Institute of Colorado for Baking and Pastry Arts and began her career at Whole Foods Market.
Excited to explore and dig into clean, organic, local ingredients, she worked her way through pastry and bread production. After some time with Whole Foods Market, she was eager to have a more intimate experience with bread. So, she moved to San Francisco where she had the opportunity to partake in bread production for Thorough Bread & Pastry at the San Francisco Baking Institute.
After Desirae’s experience there, she rejoined Whole Foods Market as the leader of their Rocky Mountain bread team. Working diligently, she proudly helped cultivate a team of badass bakers. As it came time, once again, to evaluate what her next career steps would entail, the universe interjected.
One of Desirae’s mentors introduced her to Tasos Katsaounis, founder of Bread Man Baking Co. In Houston, Texas. Desirae moved to Houston to be a founding leader and the head baker of Bread Man Baking Co., bringing her creativity, desire to nurture her team and new community, and passion for all things bread.
